Antonietta Collins
Antonietta Toni Gonzalez Collins (born in Mexico) is a Mexican American broadcaster. She anchors SportsNation and is a SportsCenter anchor. She joined ESPN in 2016. Her mother is TV reporter Maria Antonieta Collins. Antonietta Collins was bilingual since the age of nine years old. It was a helpful talent that enabled her to get her first position in the production department for Univision in Miami that gave her the chance to collaborate with producers of national shows like Nuestra Belleza Latina, Premios Lo Nuestro Premios Juventud and Primer Impacto. The next position she was offered was a Sports Reporter at CBS St. Petersburg. CBS St. Petersburg Affiliate. In 2009 she moved into Rio Grande Valley to work as a journalist at KNVO TV 48 Univision & Fox2 News. Her stories covered immigration as well as drug trafficking and various other topics on the Texas and Mexico border. She was also the Spanish reporter at the newscast from 5 p.m., an anchor and reporter on the newscast at 9 p.m. with a reporter and anchor in English and again an anchor and reporter for the newscast of 9 p.m. in English, as well Spanish reporter from 10 p.m. She was also frequently required to act as a sports or weather anchor. Deportes 23 was Univision Dallas affiliate where she took on more responsibility. She wrote pieces to sports like the NBA, Dallas Cowboys' postseason, NBA ALDS ALCS World Series or Finals FC Dallas. In addition she also co-hosted and produced Univision 23's Accion Deportiva Extra local sports show. She was hired as sports anchor by Despierta America Deportes for their morning show. She also served as an anchor on sports on Primer Impacto, a magazine show on the UniMas Network and Contacto Deportivo. Antonietta's parents are originally of Veracruz Mexico. Then, they moved to Mexico City and she was born there on November 22 the 22nd of November, 1985. There is also an older sibling. In 1992, the family left Mexico for the US and settled in Miami. In 1992, her parents separated soon after. In 1995, she remarried Fabio Fajardo who was an engineer in the naval sector who passed away in 2006 from kidney cancer. While on a vacation Antonietta was staying at the home of her sister in Canton Ohio. Her older Collins brother had recently been offered the job of his dreams. Antonietta still a senior at high school but she was clear about the career she wanted. When she was deciding whether Mount Union is the right choice to her needs, Antonietta went to visit the school. The result was that she was a fan of the campus as well as the fact that it provided the degree she was looking for. Following the completion of her high school education she attended the university to study media studies. Mark Bergmann was her professor and also the head of WRMU, of which she's a part. They formed a strong relationship. Professor Bergmann encouraged her to believe in herself and was greatly moved by his passion for journalism.
